Big Idea: Thermohaline Convection

Therm=heat   and Haline=salt

There is a massive deep water ocean current that moves water based on energy (temperature) and matter (salinity) properties.  The denser salty and cold water sinks and pushes the current around the globe forcing less salty and warmer waters to rise.
